About Us
Today, most cooking recipes call for olive oil: EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), cold-pressed, unfiltered. How are they different? There are now so many to choose from that it has become overwhelming!
This is why I started Olive Oil Direct. I bring my customers olive oils that have been carefully selected by me as the best since they are made from the first pressing of the olives, which results in the highest quality olive oil. Flavor, color, and consistency vary, like fine wines, due to different olive varieties, location, and weather. Did you know that olive oils of certain small producers are treated and priced like fine vintage wines? I narrow my selection down to the best selection I have found and I hope you enjoy!
Inspired by my travel and food experiences in Italy, I knew I had to introduce more delicious quality ingredients to those who have a passion for indulgent flavorful delicious food!
I have always loved indulging in a good meal- but after indulging in restaurants and friend's homes throughout the different regions of Italy, I spent much time trying to get to the bottom of why such simple dishes in Italy tasted so different than when I made them or had them here in the U.S. First I realized the backbone of every dish was olive oil. But still- something seemed different in the flavor than the olive oils I was buying at my local store. I discovered that Olive Oil in Italy tasted much better than what I was accustomed to because Italians cook with only the best high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the world!
I had never tasted such pleasure as the simple pure olive oil drizzled over my fish in the town of Positano, or the "orecchiette con le rape", pasta shaped like 'little ears' and served with a pungent mixture of vegetables and extra virgin olive oil. Or the "fettuccine del pescatore", a typical Tuscan dish with fettuccine pasta shrimps, oysters, salt, pepper, garlic and extra virgin olive oil.
My BEST friend, Daniela is Italian. As roommates in college, I was constantly intrigued by what she was making in the kitchen. Never quite understanding why a dish with such simple ingredients tasted much more delicious than what I had experienced. Daniela turned me on to new foods and tastes, such as her Nonna's (Italian for "Grandma") Arrabiata spicy tomatoe sauce, and her homemade pastas with garlic, clams and drizzled with Italian extra virgin olive oil. We have shared so many delicious foods and travels together that I feel compelled to share my chosen favorites with the rest of the world!
Not only are good olive oils a delicious way to add luxury, velvety flavor to any dish, they are a healthy start to a Mediterranean diet!
